Baldelau

Wasserstetten (Gomadingen), The county of Reutlingen

Who built or owned the small castle of Baldelau near Wasserstetten is still unknown, as is when it was built. The name itself first appeared in 1316 when a forest called “Baldenloch” was mentioned. This suggests that the castle was inhabited during the 13th and 14th century. The castle itself is mentioned in a Forstlagerbuch dating back to 1745, which reports on “an old, crumbling castle.” Nevertheless, the existence of a castle was still questioned at the beginning of the 20th century. Based on the oral tradition of the local population, investigations were carried out in 1961, during which remains of foundation wall were found. Today, however, the whereabouts of these finds are unknown.
